BISHOP APPOINTS REVEREND DR. PAUL KIM

Bishop Swenson has recently appointed the Reverend Dr. Kim to be pastor of Eastlight Korean United Methodist Mission which resides here on the campus of First United Methodist Church.

Most recently, Dr. Kim served the congregation of Highgrove United Methodist Church in the Riverside area.  Previously, Dr. Kim led churches in Phoenix, Arizona, Camarillo, Santa Paula, and Granada Hills.  He has been active in social action ministries including CLUE and an immigration task force.

Dr. Kim earned a Master of Divinity from Claremont School of Theology in 1992.  After further work at Drew Theological School in New Jersey, he traveled to Southern Methodist University in Dallas where he earned a Doctor of Ministry.  His doctoral thesis is entitled “Evangelization as Liberation for Building of the Kingdom of God.”

Dr. Kim is married to Ruth Kim who also holds a Master of Divinity degree from Claremont School of Theology as well as a Master of Arts from Korea University.  She has most recently served as director of the afterschool program at Plus Academy and continues as a candidate for ministry.

The Kims have three children.  Daniel graduated in 2010 from UC Santa Barbara from the mechanical engineering program and is currently employed at C and D Zodiac Aerospace in Orange County.  Sharon will be a senior at UC Davis this next fall in the area of animal science with the expectation of taking a veterinary medicine degree after graduation.  Esther will be a senior at North High School in Riverside where the family continues to reside.  Dr. Kim is seeking to locate a room in the Glendale area so that he does not have to travel to Riverside every day.

We welcome the Kim family to Eastlight and to Glendale.  May their ministry be fruitful.
